"Let's Dance This Tango"
Outdoor Tango Meeting

08/07/09/10 July in Urduliz, Bilbao

Organized by the Querido Tango team

Let's Dance This Tango is the second event organized by Borja Alcalde and Christina Gómez, who in previous years brought you Festivalito and Maratoncito, two tango events filled with intimacy, good vibes, and a friendly, celebratory atmosphere. The pandemic prevented us from continuing with these two great events, but we couldn't wait any longer; the desire to share hugs has overcome us!

So this summer, in July, we want to hold the second edition of the event, designed and thought out for the enjoyment of all the dancers attending.

Welcome to "Let's Dance This Tango" Outdoor Tango Gathering!

We have a luxurious venue: a 250m2 typical Basque pelota court where they usually play Basque pelota, surrounded by a garden, a bar in an old farmhouse, located in the center of town and a 5-minute walk from our school. And in case you're worried about the weather... the court is open-air, but it has a roof to protect us. And the best part? You don't have to worry about foot resistance... we're going to put in a wooden floor!

There will be milongas from Thursday to Sunday, after-parties, a milonga on the beach, tango classes with Alejandra Heredia and Mariano Otero, exhibitions, and the "El Berretín" orchestra playing live for us.

Read on for the full program, COVID-19 measures, and the registration process.

¿Dónde hacemos las milongas, los after party y las clases?

The Bailemos Este Tango event is located in the village of Urduliz in Uribe Kosta, on the outskirts of Bilbao. The metro reaches the Urduliz stop in about 40 minutes from downtown Bilbao. Urduliz is a 5-10 minute drive from numerous beaches, some of the most beautiful in Bizkaia. In the surrounding towns of Sopelana, Plentzia, Barrika, and Laukiz, there are accommodation options in apartments, Air BnBs, hotels, hostels, and rural houses. We suggest several options here.

As you can see above, the event will be held in three locations. The Txiberri Edantoki garden is where all the milongas will take place until 10:30 p.m. At the Querido Tango studio, we'll hold classes during the day and the after-party from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. It's just a five-minute walk from one venue to the other, and there's plenty of free parking nearby. The milonga on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. takes place facing Atxabiribil beach, at the El Sitio bar in Sopelana. The best way to get there is by car, although the Sopelana metro station is a 30-minute walk away.

Let's Dance This Tango (2).png

El Berretín is a contemporary tango group recently created in Cantabria by Argentine guitarist Ricky Schneider, as a continuation of the Conexión Tango project (Barcelona 2005-2010), with which they toured major European stages, bringing the music of the Río de la Plata to numerous tango, world music, and jazz festivals. This instrumental quartet is completed by Salva Parada (bandoneon), Raúl Suarez Tortosa (piano), and Dani Simons (double bass). Musicians of a very high academic and professional level. The repertoire includes tangos and milongas by Astor Piazzolla, Eduardo Rovira, and other Argentine composers, as well as pieces of their own compositions.

In Lunfardo (River Plate slang), a Berretín is: a vehement desire, a craving, a weakness for something, a fixed idea. Intense infatuation, a romantic whim. A hiding place or illusion.

Sanitary measures

What we want most is for you to be able to enjoy some lovely tango hugs again in a relaxed and safe environment.

Due to the situation created by the pandemic, and to hold an event where everyone can feel comfortable, while taking all the required health measures, we have to limit capacity and therefore no tickets will be sold at the door. You must register in advance, and that's why we're also giving priority to those who can participate in the entire event from Thursday to Sunday. That's why we've also chosen to hold the event in a large outdoor venue.

We must abide by the current regulations of the autonomous community. For now, this means we don't require a COVID passport or antigen test, and we don't have to wear a mask when dancing (see our Facebook page for updates).

You can review all the event terms and conditions in detail here.
